Film Festival Guidelines

Eligibility

All past and former Kent State University students are eligible as well as all non students.

Films must have been produced after the August 1st, 2018.

Any genre and format is welcome. (e.g. fiction, documentary, animation, etc.)

All crew members must be over the age of 18, and parental permission forms for actors under the age of 18 must be on file.

Films in a foreign language must include English subtitles. Closed captioning for all English films is highly recommended.

Submissions can be no longer than 20 minutes in length. 

Submission Deadlines and Fees

There is no submission fee for current and past Kent State University students, however, there is a submission fee of $10 per entry via a donation to kentstatefilms.com/donate per submission.

Every audience member must purchase a ticket.

Films must be submitted by 11:59 pm EST on April 6th, 2020.

Submissions are accepted in the form of .mp4 or online viewing link at HD quality or above. If accepted, online films must be re-submitted in .mp4 format by 11:59 pm April 17th, 2020.

Selection Process

KSUIF is not obligated to accept all submissions or disclose reasoning for non-acceptance. To be clear, KSUIF can accept or reject films for any reason whatsoever.

Final decisions will be made by KSUIF board members, Kent State faculty, and select film professionals.

Applicants will be notified of acceptance or rejection by 11:59 pm EST on April 13th, 2019.

Awards

Categories of awards may include the following and are subject to change:

-Best Cinematography

-Best Sound Design

-Best Acting

-Best Writing

-Best Editing/Effects

-Audience Choice

Winners will receive an award certificate and publication on all KSUIF platforms.

Winners do not have to be present to accept awards.
